Leo is in the Building

Rosebud and Leo
Who says you don't give presents at Thanksgiving? Obviously no one told Rosebud as yesterday morning she presented us with a new Triskelion bull calf Leonardo, Leo for short. He duly arrived in mask and flippers ready to do battle with the elements, or at least get to the pasture! Leo is 24 inches tall and 33 inches long and is a real looker, with a good Jersey color. We now await Bessie's pleasure but doubt it will be too long.

Thanks Heidi. About another week, depending on Bessie's state of mind!

Congrats!!
You are right on target about cows having their own ideas and all the factors that precipitate a calving!
HaHa!

Rosebud really kept us guessing. But looking back and adding up all of the predictive factors, we were pretty much on the mark (night, week night, prior to holiday involving lots of effort, raining...I forgot to add "guests due"). We have another calf due this week. I guess we'll need to figure out which upcoming night will be the coldest least convenient :).

Welcome, Leo! I would like to request lots of photos of you playing with yur cousin after he arrives. Our neighbors had their herd in a back pasture after this year's calving time, so we missed all the fun that we can usually watch from Anya's field.

Will do! About 5 minutes after they eat, the sugar in the milk hits their little calf brains and they start to bounce off of each other. My all time favorite incident had something to do with Elvis and a leaky water hose. I would love to have had a video of that. Bessie is looking uncomfortable this morning. We look like we are very close to meeting calf #2.
